BCI was selected by the City of Berea to design the new Farmers Market, including the pavilion and parking. The addition of the Farmers Market will further enhance the Berea Tourism “complex” at the entrance to the City. The project was funded through Berea Tourism with grants through Rural Development and the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy.
The site consists of a 2,500 s.f. shelter that overhangs 10 parking stalls. This allows vendors to back under the overhang and sell produce while under cover. Two shades have been provided at the edge of the site to cover 12 parking stalls, allowing vendors to sell produce in the shade.
Adequate parking and site circulation had to be considered for all types of vehicles, including buses. Site access also was considered and discussed with KYTC to ensure safety. Additionally, vehicle charging stations have been incorporated into the parking area.
The overall farmers market area also will serve as a venue for outdoor classes and concerts.
